Diego Forlan scored from a quick restart catching the Venezuelan defense sleeping. Forlan slotted the ball to the right of the Venezuelan keeper to start the scoring for Uruguay. Juan Arango tied the game for Venezuela a few minutes later with a goal coming from a freekick that penetrated the wall somehow and past the Uruguayan keeper.
In the second half, Pablo Garcia scored from a well placed blast in the upper 90 to give Uruguay a 2-1 lead. Uruguay added two more goals in the waning moments of the game to make it a 4-1 match. Goals from Rodriguez and another goal from Forlan gave the visitors a well-deserved win.
